Queens Park Rangers made an audacious attempt to lure Harry Redknapp to the club while he was Portsmouth boss, the Tottenham manager has revealed.

Speaking to Portsmouth based newspaper The News he claimed that there was a great deal of interest in his signature at the time with Rangers, Birmingham City and Newcastle United all interested on separate occasions.

Indeed he claims that money was no object when it came to the R’s approach:

‘When QPR had their rich new owners they came in and they asked me to write my own contract. I wasn’t interested.’

It is unclear as to when the approach was made but speculation would suggest that it was the summer of Iain Dowie’s appointment in 2008 following the departure of Luigi De Canio.
