“Had It All Crossed” – These QPR Fans React To Fan Favourite’s New Contract

|

This almost slipped through as I enjoyed my weekend, but at the end of last week Queens Park Rangers confirmed that Angel Rangel had now joined up for the coming 2019/20 campaign.

With plenty of fans wanting to see the experienced favourite handed a new deal given his performances for us last year, he has now penned a new 12 month deal at Loftus Road and has headed out for the pre-season training camp as manager Mark Warburton continues his plans for the coming year.

Speaking to the Official Site as his new contract was announced, 36-year-old Rangel admitted he was delighted to be back as although we ended up with another disappointing year, he’d enjoyed himself on a personal level and he was clearly looking forward to working under Warburton given his preferred style of play.

“It feels great to be back – I’m very happy. I had such a fantastic time here last season. QPR tick all of the boxes for me. There’s such a great group of lads in the dressing room, the environment is very positive and I wanted to have the connection that I had with the supporters again. The new manager has come in with a new philosophy on football – a style that I was used to for many years at Swansea as we went from League One to the Premier League. I’ve always enjoyed playing that way and, all things considered, the decision to come back here was a very easy one.”

With a clear youth focus at the club, Warburton knew Rangel’s experience, both on and off the pitch, would be an asset for him.

“Angel’s experience will prove invaluable. You want the balance to be right – you want youthful exuberance, that hunger and desire. But you need senior players who can apply their experience and knowledge as well. You want them to speak to and advise players, to get into them when they have to. Players like Angel understand when to do that, what to do and why to do it. I’m delighted to have him back on board because I think he’ll be a real benefit to us.”

Warburton also referenced the style of play that he was used to at Swansea and he knew he’d be able to help that transition over pre-season as well.

Fans were naturally delighted with the confirmation coming in.
