Kaspars Gork?s will captain his Latvia side as they go their crucial qualifier against Greece this evening.

This will be the central defender’s 28th appearance for Latvia, and owing to the absence of former Bristol Rovers midfielder Vitālijs Astafjevs, Gork?s will skipper the side.

The QPR man will be hoping to add to the two goals scored already at international level – the most recent coming in the crucial victory over Israel to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

With Switzerland securing top spot earlier with a 3-0 away win over Luxembourg, the best Latvia can hope for is a playoff place.

A victory tonight would go a long way to securing their ultimate goal of qualification, a first in the history of the country.

Meanwhile Adel Taarabt scored for Morocco as they went down 3-1 away at Gabon, a defeat that banished any fleeting hopes of qualification.

The young international midfielder scored the consolation goal with Morocco already three goals down in the fixture.
