Kaspars Gork?s was an imposing figure at the centre of defence as Latvia ran out clear winners against Luxembourg at the weekend.

The QPR defender played the entire 90 minutes is Latvia`s 4-0 demolition which leaves them only three points off leaders Greece in Group Two of the World Cup Qualifiers.

He played the entire 90 minutes alongside FK Liepājas Metalurgs defender Deniss Ivanovs, as they shut out the hosts in a one sided affair.

The visitors had the lead on 25 minutes courtesy of striker Girts Karlsons, before Watford player Aleksandrs Cauna doubled the advantage after the break.

Aleksejs Visnakovs made in three with little under 20 minutes remaining before former Derby County man Andrejs Perepļotkins completed the rout with just short of five minutes to go.

Latvian journalist Edmunds Novickis of esports.lv said: “Latvia`s defence didn`t have many problems in the few Luxembourg attacks Gork?s played well, with a lot of confidence.

“I don’t remember the last time Latvia played so well. It was a really good performance and the score could be much more then 4:0.

“Of course, the opponent wasn’t a big side but let’s remember that Luxembourg last year sensationally won against Switzerland at their home 2:1!”

Latvia will have it all to do again on Wednesday night as they invite Luxembourg back to Riga, with a view to a similar result in the Latvian capital.
