Games are not be getting easier for QPR, and act as a real litmus test for Warburton – Opinion

|

So after the ‘test’ against Derby County that I spoke about last week, should we be thinking the same way about the game against Preston North End this weekend?

The Derby game acted as a great rebound from the two previous awful results against Fulham and Nottingham Forest, so now that we are in a somewhat upward curve even if it is just one game, the question is whether or not we’ll be able to carry that on.

Whilst there have been conflicting rumours regarding the future of QPR boss Mark Warburton, with one saying he is on his way out, and the other saying he is not, I would still very much see this as a game to judge if the Derby game was a fluke or if the club really is back on the right track, having been as high as fifth in the table back in late October.

Whilst it’s unsure which of the reports regarding Warburton’s future is true, the fact that the fan base is still relatively split when it comes to his credentials about taking us into the top flight shows that he has a lot to do when it comes to winning the whole of the fanbase over, myself included.

Whilst Preston are going well in the table right now, they have lost their last three games so are on a pretty bad run of form, so this game is very much up for grabs.

Now whilst I don’t expect QPR to come away with a victory, so long as they can keep up the kind of performance that they put in against Derby, whereby they were very much in the game for the duration of the 90 minutes, then I’ll consider it as a positive sign that Warburton has got things back to a respectable level.

But if we see another capitulation like we did against Nottingham Forest last week, then you really do have to question if it’s the players that are the problem, or if the manager is the one that’s failing to put them in a good enough position to perform.
