Friendly – QPR Sign Pre-Season Off With A Win – Work Still To Be Done

|

Queens Park Rangers took a 3-0 victory in our final pre-season friendly of the summer against FC Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon.

Hosting the side at Loftus Road as we are now only a week away from the 2018/19 Championship big kick off with Preston North End, goals from Bright Osayi-Samuel, Matt Smith and Eberechi Eze gave us the largely comfortable win.

Whether or not fans can take the starting line-up as a hint as to what manager Steve McClaren’s thoughts are for the campaign opener next Saturday, well that will remain open for debate until Saturday comes, but you’d like to think he’s at least made his decision on 6-8 of the starting lineup positions at this stage of the summer.

QPR:

Ingram, Kakay (Baptiste 76), Leistner, Lynch, Bidwell, Luongo (Cousins 72), Scowen (Smyth 76), Freeman, Eze, Smyth (Washington 81), Osayi-Samuel (Manning 65).

Subs not used:

Lumley, Chair, Wszolek, Wheeler, Hamalainen, Sylla.

Goal – Osayi-Samuel (18), Smith (30), Eze (pen 59).

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, McClaren did say that he felt the group would only get stronger as the season progressed but also that he hadn’t yet decided on the team that would take to the pitch. I’d expect there to be an element of gamesmanship there but also a partial challenge to some players to really step up and impress over the coming week.
