Martin Haywood will take charge of QPR`s trip to Burnley this weekend in his first game in charge of the R’s.

Haywood from West Yorkshire joined the national list of assistant referees in 2002 before being promoted four years later to the national list of referees.
In 2006 he refereed his first game which was a 1-1 draw between Notts County and Swindon Town in League Two – booking former R`s winger Aaron Brown during that fixture.
Refereeing mainly League Two fixtures with a smattering from the level above, Mr Haywood took charge of 21 games in total, booking 64 and sending off three in his first full season in charge.
Last season Mr Haywood got a taste for Championship football, refereeing six fixtures in the second tier including this weekend`s opponents Burnley in their 1-1 home draw with relegated Leicester City.
Into the present season and Mr Haywood has been given far more licence to referee in the Championship, having presided over ten games already this season. He booked no-one in Burnley’s meeting with Reading in October last year.
Despite a victory over AFC Bournemouth Vital Chesterfield was scathing of a decision by Mr Haywood:
“Lester (Jack) used his experience to take the ball around Shwan Jalal, but the goalkeeper brought down the veteran striker just outside the box. Referee Mark Haywood went straight to his pocket but only cautioned Jalal with a yellow card, to the disgust of the home spectators.
“A definite red card seemed the only decision Haywood could make, with Jalal being the last player to beat. Maybe it was because there had only been 25 minutes played, although this shouldn`t cloud an FA trained referee decision.”
So far this season Mr Haywood has refereed 33 games dishing out 50 yellow cards and four reds – giving him the low average of 1.64 cards per game.
The average suggests he is a lenient referee, and this is true to an extent in spells – some games he books five players, some games he books none. It will be interesting to see what official turns up at Turf Moor this weekend.
