Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has called upon his fellow players to show belief in themselves and bounce back from this weekend’s defeat.

The Royals were defeated 3-1 away to league leaders West Bromwich Albion despite taking the lead at the Hawthornes.

Jerome Thomas’ double combined with Yussuf Mulumbu’s late effort cancelled out an early opener from defender Matthew Mills.

‘We’ve got to play for a full 90 minutes,” said goalkeeper Adam Federici.

“It comes down to the players, we need to put our chests up and say ‘yes, they’ve scored, but we can go on and still win it here.’

‘The first goal on Saturday was a bad one to concede, but then we just let them back in. The game was still there for us to win, I don’t know why we didn’t just pick ourselves up and carry on. We’ve got to do that now, pick ourselves up and go again.’

The Australian keeper stepped out the shadows of his former American colleague Marcus Hahnemann following his release and subsequent move to Wolves.

He told readingfc.co.uk that Reading can not only pull off a victory at Loftus Road, but are capable of a comfortable win.

‘We need to pick ourselves up off the floor,” he continued.

“They’re a great side, but there aren’t easy games in the Championship.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up very quickly and play for a full ninety minutes. If we can do that we are capable of beating a team three or four nil, it’s just a matter of consistency.’

Federici is one of the few goalkeepers to score a goal in the Championship – it came in the final minute of last season’s game with Cardiff City to draw the game level.
