Gary Waddock, ex Queens Park Rangers player and manager, and current manager of Aldershot Town gives his assesment of the current situation in W12.

“It`s a time of change here, and I`ve had a look round the ground, and its changing, but for the best really.” Waddock commented to QPR.co.uk

“This is the first time I`ve been back, and looking round, and the fans don`t see it behind the scenes, but its fantastic, a big, big improvement and obviously the club is moving forward which is fantastic.”

The midfielder who made in excess of 200 appearances for QPR spoke of his excitement about the changes at Loftus Road, but akin to this, the expectation.

“They`ve got a bit of money, obviously they`ll invest that into the squad. I think expectations are going to be high next year, whether that`s going to come from inside the club and on the terraces or on the outside of the club, people on the outside expecting, whether its promotion through the playoffs or winning it as champions.”

He continued.

“It takes time and you can`t have instant success, even though you can throw quite a bit of money at it and that doesn`t always guarantee you success either. It`d be lovely if the club can get back into the Premiership whether that`s this season or the year after. That`d be a fantastic achievement.”

After parting ways with QPR in September 2006, Waddock took up the vacant managers post at Aldershot Town where he currently resides, having given them football league status at the first attempt, securing top spot with 101 points.

An integral cog in this well oiled machine was ex-Rangers prospect Scott Donnelly, who indeed scored the equalising goal away at St. James` Park, Exeter, to secure the Shots place in the Football League. Waddock took time to praise the R`s youth product.

“Scotty`s done great, he played in the game at Exeter and got the winning goal for us. But since he`s come to the club he`s been outstanding really, he`s a talented player as we all know. He`s a lot fitter a lot older, a lot more mature, and we`re seeing one or two decent performances from him.”
