Hogan Ephraim scored a solitary goal as the R`s reserves drew against Charlton Athletic in the Football Combination Invitation Cup.

The R`s fielded a strong side with player/manager Gareth Ainsworth starting along with Adam Bolder, Matteo Alberti, Patrick Agyemang, as well as loanee Samuel Di Carmine and the aforementioned Ephraim.

Perhaps the biggest draw was the fact that Akos Buzsaky completed his rehabilitation from injury to take his place on the bench, for the R`s first reserve fixture of the campaign.

Charlton included new signings Linvoy Primus and Stuart Fleetwood, as well as household names such as Darren Ambrose and Svetoslav Todorov.

In an evenly contested first period the R`s threatened with excellent solo efforts from Patrick Agyemang and Hogan Ephraim. Both sides battled well as the first period ended goalless.

Buzsaky came back into the fray as a half time substitute, but Darren Ambrose capitalised on some poor defending to hand the Addicks the lead in W12. The versatile midfielder playing wide right, came inside to poke home from close range.

It wasn`t long before the R`s were level and Ephraim lit up the left flank with a scintillating run, culminating with a curling shot into the far corner.

The game finished with the R`s in the ascendancy creating chances at will with Charlton stopper Robert Elliott the harder worked of the two stoppers. Angelo Balanta proved his class on several occasions, giving the Charlton defence something to worry about, by bamboozling Linvoy Primus on numerous occasions.

The match ended 1-1 in a game that promised much, with Rangers fringe players performing admirably in the hope of making their way back into first team contention.
