Rangers boss Iain Dowie gives his thoughts behind the Kaspars Gorkss deal as well as the surprising defeat up in Kilmarnock.

‘It was great to have Kaspars out there.” Dowie told QPR.co.uk

“He is going to be a real asset for us, there’s no question about that.”

Gorkss who is set to sign for Rangers today from Blackpool with Daniel Nardiello and central defender Zesh Rehman going in the other direction, will bolster the squad ahead of the start of the season on August 9th.

‘Damion Stewart is suspended for the first game against Barnsley, due to his sending off at Norwich, so it’s important that we have options at the back.’

With the transfer saga of the summer drawing to its conclusion, Dowie then moved to focus of the defeat at Rugby Park where Rangers shooting boots eluded them.

‘I was quite pleased with the display today. We created plenty of opportunities, but one moment of madness in the first half cost us.

‘We didn’t pick up the runner into the box, and paid the price for that.

Dowie was delighted that Rangers had the ability to create more chances, but rue`s the fact that not one chance was converted.

‘I wanted greater creativity from the players, and I got it. We had 18 shots on goal in the first half alone, which is incredible – and four of those were one-on-ones!

‘We dominated the game and should have won comfortably. On another day, Patrick Agyemang would have got three, Balanta would have got one and Gareth Ainsworth would have got a couple.

However with a new Championship season just around the corner, First Team Coach Dowie was happy with most aspects of the game, after what were punishing training sessions north of the border.

‘The lads were excellent, they put in a lot of effort after a tough week and I was pleased with them.

‘We gave a couple of lads a rest tonight, but I thought Angelo Balanta was terrific. He showed that he has great potential.’

On Rangers tour of Scotland they first lost 2-0 to Falkirk with Damion Stewart`s own goal and John Stewart`s strike settling the game. Combine this with the 1-0 defeat against Killie with trialist Manuel Pascali`s unmarked header leaving the R`s scratching their head.

Rangers now move forward to Chievo Verona on Saturday where Dowie will give his best indication of his squad for the opening game of the season against Barnsley, who were themselves thumped last night losing 6-0 at home to Wigan.
