IAIN DOWIE has vowed to bring the good times back to Loftus Road by playing attractive football, he also outlined who will be buying the players.

The new Rangers First Team Coach spoke to QPR.co.uk first about his return to Loftus Road:

“I`ve come full circle from my grounding here where I spent really good times, certainly invaluable times for me, particularly working under Gerry but initially under Ray Harford, so it was here that really got me the bug of coaching so it`s nice to come back in full circle to a club steeped in history. It`s certainly exciting times for everyone around the club, and I`m delighted to have the honour to come and manage Queens Park Rangers.”

Dowie also spoke concerning his impression of the QPR board, and the direction of the club at large:

“Without question it`s a very ambitious club and they`re realistic enough to know we have to be very competitive come the first game of the season, that`s what we`re aiming to be”

“There`s a great deal of ambition at this club and I share in that ambition, but its something that I think has been done very thoughtfully, they`ve not just gone out and thrown money at it, that`s not been the case its been done in a thoughtful fashion and hopefully that`ll continue”

The current squad is certainly an issue of debate as players are persistently linked with the club, but Dowie served to put existing players at ease:

“I don`t think the squad needs a lot of tinkering with. I think there`s one or two areas we need to strengthen and I`m sure we`ll try and do that, but we can also use the loan market, that`s very important you`ve seen that this year. How good clubs have done that very well and it`s vitally important that we do do our homework, that`s the key.”

In terms of transfer activity however, Dowie was adamant that he would be the one doing the deals and not the club hierarchy including newly appointed Sporting Director, Gianni Paladini:

“They will be my choice, I mean clearly if I`m the first team coach manager of the team, I`ve got to pick the players and that`s very important that`s my expertise, in knowing what players will fit in the system.

“I`ve had great support so far when we`ve talked about it. You put together hit-lists and hopefully people pick off the ones that we can do. It`s important that we get it right and important that the football side picks the football team and that`s what I`ve been brought in to do.”

Dowie added:

“It was never a problem as far as I`m concerned, they always felt that it was right that someone that knew the league could come in and make a team capable. So I think they were very aware that I was coming in with that in terms of player selection it had to be mine.”

After drawing on his playoff and promotion experiences with Crystal Palace, Dowie moved to compare his time at Selhurst Park with now:

“What worked at Crystal Palace won`t necessarily work here, but I think everyone in the club is going in the right direction, we`re a tight knit unit and its about being together.

We know we`ve got a fantastic fanbase. If we get this club going and get some results on the board we can certainly achieve something this year.”

Finally, after seeing the nucleus of a good footballing team under Luigi De Canio, Dowie wants to purport a similar style of play, whilst making Loftus Road a real fortress for the R`s:

“The key is that we`re going to come back and watch some entertaining football we`re going to pass the ball. I`ve always done that at every club I`ve been at, and that`s very important that we get the ball down and pass it and hopefully we bring some of the great times back to a fantastic club.”

I`ve played here on nights where the atmosphere`s been special at Loftus Road and I want to bring them back and hopefully we`ll start the season with a bang and move on from there.”
