Iain Dowie was in the Sky Sports studio today and was questioned on various topics concerning Queens Park Rangers.

Dowie plans to take his Rangers squad down to Bath to a testing facility for four days, citing his first priority was to get them into shape and how much the footballs come out will depend on what shape the players are in.

Fitness was a key theme running throughout the conversation with Dowie reminiscing of his time at Oldham having Lancashire County Cricket club in for training. Ultimately however he intimated that any player who wasn`t fit, would not play.

It didn`t take long however for the questions concerning potential transfer targets. On the Kaspars Gorkss scenario which has had Simon Grayson and Karl Oyston screaming from the rooftops, Dowie played down the situation:

“I`ve got nothing to address myself about, we`ve made a bid and that`s with them, the fact they`ve complained to the F.A is not my problem, it will all be sorted out by the football league”

Dowie`s tone was such that he expected the deal to be a case of when not if, however he did not divulge further.

Further transfer speculation ensued, in which Rangers first team coach was asked about Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson. Dowie didn`t seem as comfortable speaking about this speculation, and retorted with a standard cliché response.

“It`s a very poor recipe to talk about other players on contracts at other clubs, I think that`s disrespectful to everyone.”

He was keen to stress however, that he would speak concerning such deals only when a club has announced that a bid has been accepted. However on the question concerning Fiorentina forward Samuel di Carmine, Dowie intimated that the deal could be imminent:

“It`s not quite done, there are a number of players that are of interest to us. There are players that we are in discussion with”

Dowie was keen to promote the style of play that will be on display at Loftus Road, a passing game, that would most befit Rangers newest addition Emmanuel Ledesma. Ledesma himself was a great topic of discussion for Dowie who brought the conversation back to the young Argentinean on several occasions, without discounting the current squad:

They are a good squad here, Ledesma and players of that quality will improve the existing players we have.”

It is clear to see that Dowie is impressed with the current squad, using words such as “Tweaking” and “Tinkering”, when mentioning the current crop of players.

These discussions Dowie revealed were down to the ingenuity of Rangers co-owner Flavio Briatore and how his contacts and help in drawing up a suitable list of players have helped him so far. When quizzed how much impact the three owners have, Dowie singled out Briatore as the main man:

“Flavio is very much involved he`s hands on, he`s the one I report to?Flavio is the main man”

With the help of Flavio Briatore, Iain Dowie commented on the fact that he has been to a tournament in Italy, in order to look at some young players and to draw up a shortlist. Whilst no names were mentioned, some were singled out as immediate impact players, and some players for the future.
