Iain Dowie spoke following the final whistle at Sixfields indicating that he was delighted at the outcome of the match, and the R`s style of play.

Rangers won a dull affair at the Sixfields Stadium courtesy of a header from Dexter Blackstock. At times Rangers passed the ball about well, but in spells their inability to retain possession was a slight worry.
‘I’m really pleased with how we played tonight.” Dowie told QPR.co.uk

‘Northampton are a good side, but we restricted them well and got the ball down and played some good, passing football.

‘That’s exactly what I asked the boys to do, and they did it.

Dowie was also full of praise for wide players Emmanuel Jorge Ledesma
and Matteo Alberti, with the latter looking a cut above most on the pitch, but dowie concentrated mainly on the performance of Argentinean Ledesma.

‘I was delighted with how Emmanuel Ledesma and Matteo Alberti played. Ledesma caused them a number of problems, and he is a great crosser of the ball.”

‘You could tell by his delivery for Dexter’s goal that he knows just where to put it.’

Dowie also gave his strongest indication yet at what side he will be putting out against Chievo, and henceforth against Barnsley for the first game of the season.

‘My starting team for the first match of the season against Barnsley will be no secret.

‘For our friendly against Chievo it is highly possible I will start with the players I expect to name against Barnsley seven days later.”

Dowie was also quick to praise the attitude of his players after what are no doubt some tough training sessions, and the R`s boss believes that the attitude of the players has been excellent

‘It is important that we use these matches at the moment to gradually build up the minutes the players are getting out there.

‘They are all working extremely hard in training, and I have to say their attitude has been spot on.’

Rangers will now travel to Scotland taking on firstly Falkirk on Saturday and then moving on midweek to Kilmarnock.
