Former Queens Park Rangers boss Iain Dowie has been given odds 16/1 to succeed Simon Davey at Barnsley.

The QPR manager whose first victory was against the Tykes was sacked at Loftus Road after 15 games in charge. He then linked up with Alan Shearer at Newcastle United, but with the club going through a transition neither have been offered a role on Tyneside.

The favourite for the post is a man previously linked with QPR, Adrian Boothroyd, while Rotherham United boss Mark Robins and former Derby County manager Paul Jewell make up the top three.

Names such as Tony Adams, Steve Cotterill and the surprising inclusion of Brian Kidd follow ex-Tykes Danny Wilson and Neil Redfearn in the betting.

Dowie looks to be an outside bet at present as he sits alongside Lawrie Sanchez and Gary Speed at 16/1, but as QPR fans well know the betting patterns can change by the hour as the club draws nearer to an appointment.
