DJ’s Christmas Present

DJ Campbell will be hoping to give QPR fans some festive cheer as he has targeted a return to first team action in three to four weeks. The 30-year-old striker has been forced to miss The R’s last five games through a metatarsal injury sustained in training, but is now as determined as ever to make it back in time for the chaotic Christmas schedule.

Campbell – a life long QPR fan – told qpr.co.uk ‘The recovery is going well. The foot feels good now and I am concentrating on doing strengthening work on my calf and thigh’. Having netted in only his third appearance for the club, DJ expressed his frustration at being sidelined: ‘I love playing football and throughout my career all I have wanted to do is play, especially now that I am home at QPR. It’s difficult but it’s part of the game. We all get injured at some point but the important thing is to come back stronger. Hopefully when I do come back I can fire the goals in.’

Heidar Helguson and Jay Bothroyd have performed admirably in Campbell’s absence, netting seven times between them since DJ’s unfortunate injury, but the QPR squad would no doubt welcome an early return for the striker. Campbell further added – ‘Three to four weeks is the target for my return, and if I can get back sooner that would be great. We have always said December and that’s looking good at the moment. Touch wood there will be no setbacks, and I will be back soon.’
