Kaspars Gorkss spoke to Sky Sports News after our match tonight at the Hawthorns, which saw Rangers hold the Baggies 2-2 with a gutsy and determined display.

‘Everyone is a bit disappointed. Before the game we would probably have taken a draw against West Brom,’ he told the cameras.

‘But I think we were only thirty seconds away from winning the game which makes it a bit difficult to take,’ the big Latvian defender admitted.

‘But we will take positives out of the game and go again.’

Gorkss was asked whether he thought we deserved to win: ‘Yes, I think we had a game plan for this game and we stuck to the game plan all the way through the game – yeah we missed those 30 seconds, so . . .!!’

When asked what Steve Gallen had asked of the team tonight, Gorkss replied: ‘He just said we should set our own tempo, just be patient. We knew that West Brom liked to play with the ball, that they would have loads of possession and just be patient and maybe counterattack.

‘We have the players who can counterattack. And make the most of set plays, which we did!

Gorkss felt that, when he scored only his 2nd-ever goal for us earlier in the 2nd half, it was too early to think that he might have scored our winner. But he did admit it was very nice to score!

When asked how difficult the past few days down at Loftus Road have been, Gorkss was diplomatic to say the least! With a wry grin he confessed: ‘It has been an interesting time for us, obviously everyone knows!

‘But we showed today that we stuck together and played a good game.’

He was then asked about the strength and unity of the team, to which he again proferred a very diplomatic viewpoint: ‘I think our team has been strong anyway and we haven’t had problems before – and we don’t have problems now.’ (Hmm? Has he been learning from politicians I have to ask?!)

Regarding our recent poor form – one win in seven before tonight’s game – Gorkss remarked: ‘I think we need to build up from the positives of this game and just keep going. I know that it is disappointing that we didn’t win but there’s the next game on Saturday and there’s alot of games all through Christmas, so hopefully the wins are coming.’

He admitted to not having given much thought to the managerial situation: ‘To be honest, I haven’t thought about it. We’ll see what happens – it should be done this week. I don’t know what’s going to happen. You’ll have to ask someone from upstairs!’ he concluded.

I have to say – he paused before giving an answer to any of the questions, however close-to-the-knuckle; and came over as a very intelligent, thinking-man’s footballer. No cliches or rushed answers, no putting his foot in it either – just solid answers matching another solid defensive performance from a player I, for one, believe should be the first name on the team sheet for each and every game!

Well done tonight, Kaspars – well done tonight, QPR. Now bring on Sheffield United, yes?!
