With all the excitement of QPR buying another quality defender, it may have been overlooked that our sterling, reliable – dependable Shaun Derry – has signed an extension to his existing contract with QPR.

The new deal will take him through to summer 2013 but also leaves open the possibility of getting involved with some coaching work with the Club, too.

Warnock told QPR.co.uk that this extension was a reward to Derry for all his hard-work, not just last year in our amazing promotion season, but because the scrambled-egg & beans-on-toast loving midfielder had impressed new owner Tony Fernandes.

‘He’s got a few ideas about going into coaching when he finished playing and at a Club like ours, where the new owners have got so many long-term plans, there will undoubtedgly be a role for him,’ Warnock admitted.

‘He’s still got a massive impact to make as a player here first and foremore and that’s what I want him to focus on at the moment, but I think he can start having an input off-the-field too,’Warnock concluded.

Derry admitted to his desire to go into coaching – and, longer term, hopefully management – and said: ‘Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to do that at this fantastic football Club.’

It’s obvious that Derry is very happy at QPR and with Warnock and I am sure we all here at VitalQPR wish him all the very best in the short and long-term!
