After much posturing in last few days and rejected bids everywhere; Damien Delaney is finally a Rangers player.

The 26-year old Irish defender put pen to paper on a 3 and a half year contract with the R`s which is worth a reported initial £600,000 possibly rising to £1.2m depending on different factors.

Delaney spoke to the Official Website:

“It`s a massive challenge for me personally, the squad is very strong in every department and the initial task for me is to play my way into the managers thoughts”

“I met the chairman (Gianni Paladini) and he sold the club to me in an instance. He spoke in glowing terms about the new owners and what they want to achieve and from that moment on, there was never any doubt in my mind that this was the club for me”

He continued:

“I`ve experienced something similar albeit on a smaller scale, in the past, when Hull came into some serious investment and made their way up through the divisions and that should stand me in good stead”

“This is a new chapter for me and one I am going to relish”

Damien signed for Hull back in November 2002, when they were in Division 3 for the princely sum of £50,000. He went on to make 235 appearances in all competitions scoring 5 goals, most recently last season in Hull`s 4-1 demolition of Cardiff City.

The centre back turned left back was booked against the R`s at Loftus Road in Gigi De Canio`s first game in charge back in November.

The defender signed for Leicester City from Irish club Cork City for £50,000 back in 2000 but after two years with only 7 appearances, and with loan spells at Stockport, Huddersfield and Mansfield the player finally found his home at The KC Stadium.

Delaney will wear squad number 2 vacated by Marcus Bignot.

Vital Football QPR would like to extend its welcome to Damien and wish him the best of luck.
