Damien Delaney has been selected as Republic of Ireland`s left back for this evenings international tie against Serbia.

With only a few defenders selected in the squad as a whole, Delaney`s selection was hardly a surprise. Fellow Rangers player Martin Rowlands was not so fortunate having to withdraw with an ankle injury picked up in training.

The Cork born defender who signed for QPR from Hull City in January, lines up alongside fellow debutante Glen Whelan of Stoke City, aswell as experienced Premier League players, captain Robbie Keane and Newcastle United winger Damien Duff.

The match also marks a debut for Giovanni Trapattoni, who takes charge of the side following a disappointing European Championship Qualification campaign, overseen by Steve Staunton.
