Day of Woe in W12

Queens Park Rangers supporters have been hit hard by several damning pieces of news emanating from the club today.

It was a day that QPR supporters had feared; the release of season ticket prices. While 35% increases across the board were mooted in the media, supporters had no idea what to expect from what has proven to be an eventful day.

It had been hoped that a well-placed leak would see prices fall below the speculated 35% – of course the rumour has now been dispelled, but not in the way that many had hoped for.

40% increases are now in the offing for supporters whose only justification for the sizeable increase has been the promise of ‘seeing the stars’, when in truth the majority of the existing would have renewed regardless of the opposition.

The fall-out from this is that fans’ favourite Amit Bhatia has opted to leave his post over both the prices and disagreements on the direction of the club. Ishan Saksena has reportedly been removed from his post with no comment coming from the club.

This of course could be quickly followed by the dismissal of boss Neil Warnock, who had assurances of his position by Bhatia, despite Bernie Ecclestone admitting that the club had not spoken to any other party regarding his position.

The range of emotion can be felt right across the spectrum of QPR support – from anger to disappointment to resignation and every feeling in between. The club seems to be single-handedly threatening to undo the hard work of the previous year.

Many people are looking to Mr Briatore as the instigator in not only the sizeable price-hike but also the resignation of Bhatia and the removal of Saksena. As per usual these are assumption, albeit well guided, when in truth the club remains tight-lipped on the entire scenario.

As supporters many have seen and felt the bad news surrounding the club today, but another frustrating aspect is the lack of information and the absence of a statement.

A summer that was supposed to be brimming with excitement and enthusiasm for the up-coming campaign has been tinged with disappointment over this latest development in the ongoing saga that is Queens Park Rangers.
