Danish Striker Signs

Rangers have completed the signing of Danish striker Sammy Youssouf after he impressed Ian Holloway in training.

The 29-year old forward was invited to the club?s Harlington training ground last week and Holloway liked what he saw, signing him up on a six-month deal.

‘We played him in a match situation and he really impressed me. We have signed him to the end of the season so we can have a good look at him.’

‘It’s very difficult to bring in players with the current rules and even if you want to bring in a loan you often have to pay loan fees.’ Said Holloway.

The move comes after recent speculation linking the club with Northern Ireland striker Pete Thompson. Holloway went to watch ?Pistol Pete? as he is known in his home country, in action for Linfield in the week and commented that the club are also looking to sign another forward before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

‘I’ve been on the trail of one striker for quite some time and hopefully we will be able to sign him before the window closes.’ Holloway said.

After bringing in defensive pair Andy Taylor and Marcin Kus, Holloway recognised the need for another striker as the team lacks attacking options with Kevin Gallen on the sidelines and the injury prone Marc Nygaard unable to keep a run of matches under his belt.

He added: ‘Kevin Gallen has been missing and Marc Nygaard has been in and out of the side. I really want to work with Marc for a pre-season and get him fully fit because I think he is a great striker and will really do some damage in the Championship.’

‘We have been asking Shabazz Baidoo to step up and he has done really well and we are now talking to him about signing a professional contract.’

Youssouf?s track record is not the most impressive as the striker has wondered around Europe looking for stability to showcase his talents.

He started his career in his home country with Hvidovre before spending six months at Scotland?s St Johnstone.

A move back to Denmark was then the answer as he joined AB, then a 2-year spell with Dutch side Roosendaal, a year in Portugal with Maritimo and most recently a trial with Championship rivals Ipswich Town.

Elsewhere a move is not on the cards for Crewe Alexandra forward Steve Jones. Following Holloway?s comments to the media about the striker?s valuation, Alex boss Dario Gradi has refused to accept any offer coming his way from Loftus Road.

Holloway claimed a fee of £300,000 was too much money to spend on a player whose contract expires in June. Jones has already expressed his desire to leave Gresty Road and rejected a new contract back in the summer and now looks set to see out his deal with the relegation favourites.

The majority of their budget for January was blown on the two forwards and now any deal looks highly unlikely as Rangers refuse to accept any offer below £1million.
