Queens Park Rangers defender Matthew Connolly is looking forward to the West London derby with Chelsea at the end of the month.

The defender signed from Arsenal made his QPR debut at Stamford Bridge in January 2008 when a Lee Camp own goal settled a drab affair.

The defender believes that testing yourself against the top teams and players gives you great experience and despite a laboured display against Accrington in the last round, he believes that QPR can give Chelsea a challenge.

‘We played at Villa Park and Old Trafford last season, which are massive stadiums, and have world-class players to play against,” he told the Ealing Gazette

‘You want to test yourself at the highest level. It was a great experience, and we want more of the same.

‘The only positive to take from the Accrington game was we got through.

‘It was sloppy and we made it difficult for ourselves.’

Rangers progressed past Exeter City and Accrington Stanley in the opening two rounds and their reward was a plum tie with their local rivals, Chelsea.

The tie will take place on the week commencing September 21, with Rangers looking to get one over on one of their closest neighbours.
