Connolly Calls For Focus

Matt Connolly has told of the need for Rangers to remain focused if they are to pick up their third successive win on the road.

The defender returned to the side against Sheffield Wednesday following a bout of glandular fever. He replaced the injured Fitz Hall in the first period at Hillsborough.

With Damion Stewart also sidelined Connolly was forced to partner Kaspars Gorkss, and the duo put in a formidable display at the heart of the R’s defence.

Despite their lofty positioning in the Championship table, the returning defender believes that Rangers have to keep their focus against a tricky side in Doncaster Rovers.

He told QPR.co.uk: ‘We have to go into the game focused

‘Especially against Doncaster. They`ll be a good football team, we will be looking to win – a point minimum and then win the home game against Coventry.

They’re not doing so well at the moment so it will be important to get the three points.’

Connolly also told of his frustration at being sidelined through glandular fever, a calibre of injury where a rehabilitation time cannot be determined.

While visibly frustrated at having to watch Rangers’ new found flowing style rather than participate, Connolly believes that he learned a great deal from his spell out the side.

‘It was a frustrating time for me,’ he said.

‘I didn`t realise how bad it was or how long it would take. The first two weeks I was quite shocked, then watched a lot of football and realised that I could learn and take things in from the sidelines.’

Connolly continued: ‘I`ve got a long way to go I`m still learning, and I want to keep my place in the team every game and keep getting better and better.

‘I think that`s the main thing to do now, to get my fitness and to be strong again.’

The former Arsenal man could be set to retain his place against Doncaster after an impressive showing in Sheffield, with Fitz Hall still doubtful owing to a complex injury.

The defender’s last game was a home to Peterborough United prior to Owls clash, and he will be hoping to maintain a consistent run in his favoured position of centre half.
