Cissé Elated With Safety

Djibril Cissé is proud that his goals have helped maintain QPR’s Premier League status.

The French forward has been through every emotion possible since making the move from Italian club Lazio in January.

Cissé has scored six goals in eight games for QPR – missing seven fixtures after picking up two red cards against Wolverhampton Wanderers and former club Sunderland.

He vowed to repay chairman Tony Fernandes, and his goal glut – including a strike against all odds in the loss against Manchester City yesterday – have made him the man the watch in QPR’s successful safety bid.

He apologised once more for his indiscretions and indicated there is more to come next season in terms of goals.

He told QPR.co.uk: ‘The reason I signed for QPR was to score goals and have the chance to show what I can do in the Premier League.

‘That’s what I’m trying to do. I scored six goals in eight games. That’s not too bad! But I’m still hurt and disappointed with the seven games that I missed.

‘It’s a lesson that I’ll take into next season – I don’t think it’s going to happen again.’

Despite going on to lose against City – a defeat that saw them claw the title from the grasp of near rivals Manchester United – Cissé believes that the ultimate ambition was achieved in great style.

He contined: ‘We’re safe – and that’s the most important thing. My wish was to be safe and I’m really happy.’

The French forward now looks at the summer with a great level of optimism, as despite pledging his future with QPR potentially as a Championship club, he will once again have a go at the the country’s elite next season.
