Former Queens Park Rangers midfielder, now Chelsea coach, Ray Wilkins has admitted that they will have to field an under-strength side against QPR.

He told the Daily Mail that Chelsea are prioritising other competitions over the League Cup, and will use several younger players in the fixture against QPR.

‘The Carling Cup is big for us, but I think this year, for one of the first times, we will use some of the younger players in the club,’ he said.

‘Hopefully we will get a full house against QPR and if some of the young players can force their way in, then all well and good.’

This comes in the light of the Blues’ transfer ban, preventing them from bringing players in until January 2011 at the earliest.

It is believed that the Carling Cup takes less of a precedent than other competitions and in order to keep the squad fresh, players will be rested on September 23 against QPR.
