Rangers picked up a tremendous away result against Southampton at St. Mary`s, but here are the other results from a pulsating weekend in the Championship. To read the Rangers weekend match report click here.

Barnsley 2-1 West Bromwich Albion
Bosjan Cesar`s terrible touch saw Rangers loanee Daniel Nardiello through for his first back in Barnsley colours. He nearly had a second but for a Zoltan Gera goaline clearance, unfortunately for him though in a packed box, strike partner John Macken was on hand to slot home for the Tykes. Into the second half and Albion were beginning to find their feet, a neat backheel from Kevin Phillips in the area into the path of James Morrisson, the midfielder tucked the ball away low and left on the hour mark. For all of the Baggies pressure it wasn`t enough as they squandered a good opportunity and the Tykes pick up 3 priceless points.

Bristol City 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday
The game came to life when another excellent run down the middle by Michael McIndoe, came to fruition with a fantastic through ball to home debutante Dele Adebola, the striker made no mistake dispatching comfortably past Lee Grant for the games opener. Into the second half and the Robins doubled their advantage after some more good work from McIndoe and then Nick Carle on the edge of the area, led to Hinds tackling Adebola in the box, the ball rolled free on the right hand side of the area and was dispatched expertly by full back Bradley Orr, as City were certainly not suffering any hangovers from last Saturday`s defeat away at QPR. There was time for a consolation for Wednesday; a well taken free-kick by Graham Kavanagh was knocked down in the area and veteran Lee Bullen slammed the ball home from close range, but it wasn`t enough for the Owls who are still looking down perilously.

Burnley 1-1 Colchester United
Some terrible defending by Chris Coyne gave Andy Cole his first goal in the claret of Burnley. The defender let the ball bounce back off him, and the goalpoacher extraordinaire pounced to put Burnley 1-0 to the good. Karl Duguid could have been ruing one of the misses of the season when he managed to put his close range header wide of the right hand post, a real chance for Colchester. But in time they were level when a Johnnie Jackson central free kick took a wicked deflection off the Clarets wall and swerved into the bottom left hand corner past the despairing Brian Jensen, points gained for United, but 2 points dropped for Burnley.

Cardiff City 1-2 Norwich City
Norwich took the lead against the Bluebirds when some good work down the left from Bertrand, and he squared for on loan Striker Ched Evans, who has been a revelation since his move, and he dispatched the effort beautifully low and to the Oakes` left. Cardiff levelled when player of the month Joe Ledley squared for Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, whose pass gave Gavin Rae the chance he dispatched, driving low and hard past Marshall. Norwich thought took all three points 2 minutes from time and it was that man again, the Wales born Ched Evans and how! A rasping drive from distance caught Oakes off guard and the shot swerved into the top right hand corner, a goal that would grace any level of football, and a goal fit to win the encounter.

Charlton Athletic 2-0 Crystal Palace
Matt Holland took an excellent free kick picking out Andy Gray, he flicked down into the box for Luke Varney, and the ex-Crewe striker picked his target beautifully, slotting past Speroni with the outside of his right foot. Varney then completed his brace with four minutes to go, striking the ball hard past Speroni, the ball was then carried in by Mark Hudson, who just couldn`t do enough to stop the well struck effort. Palace could perhaps feel aggrieved they were not awarded a penalty when Madgid Bougherra handles in the area, but Charlton`s promotion credentials grow ever stronger.

Hull City 2-2 Blackpool
An injury to Brian Hughes early on seemed to rock the Tigers and Blackpool took full advantage. A long ball by Stephen Crainey was met by Gary Taylor-Fletcher as Boaz Myhill came flapping and Paul Dickov had the easy task of slotting into an empty net. After the half time break the Tangerines doubled their lead; Dickov found himself in again taking the ball off the head of the City defender and slotting neatly past the keeper for his 3rd goal in two games. Hull though fought back, after great work from Frazier Campbell down the left, Caleb Folan slotted home from close range, and the momentum was building. Dean Windass made the scores level after a deep cross wasn`t dealt with by the Tangerines back line, Windass bundled the ball home from close range. There was enough time for a sending off Kaspars Gorkss scythed down his man on the counter attack and was handed a second yellow.

Ipswich Town 1-2 Watford
Watford took a somewhat surprise lead at Portman Road when Tommy Smith dispatched an excellent corner from the right with a neat header into the top right hand corner. Their lead was doubled after the break as some comedy defending led to Nathan Ellington with the ball at his feet from close range, the striker made no mistake, lashing the ball home to put Ipswich`s unbeaten home record to the sword. The Tractor Boys who coincidentally won their first away game of the season last weekend managed to pick up a consolation through a scrappy Jonathan Walters effort, the striker poked home from close range after some poor set piece defending. Walters then went agonisingly close at the end when his deflecting cross came back off the post, but it was the Hornets who could go home happy after ending Ipswich`s 20 match unbeaten run at home.

Leicester City 0-1 Plymouth Argyle
Ian Holloway had a lot to live up to with his old club Plymouth bringing an army of fans and a team hell bent on revenge after some controversial words between himself and the chairman in recent media reports. Plymouth had the dream start when Peter Halmosi was laid in by Lillian Nalis and his shot deflected in off the keeper to the delight of the Argyle faithful. Glorious chances were spurned either way by Hume and Easter, and Leicester will feel aggrieved a penalty appeal was not given when Lee Hodges surely handled in the area. But it was Argyles day in the sun at the Walkers Stadium and they had their revenge on Mr. Holloway.

Preston North End 1-0 Coventry City
Coventry, who dispatched of Barnsley expertly previously, were on the end of a one goal defeat at Deepdale. Sean St. Ledger finished off a great cross from Darren Carter as he lost his marker on the far post to nod past Konstantopoulos for the only goal of the game. Coventry continued to knock on the door throughout the game without reward as they found Andy Lonerghan in inspired form, most notably from Leon Best. A massive result for the Lilywhites in their 7th home win of the season.

Sheffield United 0-0 Scunthorpe United
Grant McCann was sent off early on in somewhat mystifying circumstances, as Mr. Styles deemed his tackle as reckless enough for a red card. On closer inspection it seemed a bit harsh on the Iron who now had it all to do. But an excellent performance full of guts and effort yielded a point for Scunthorpe, Sheffield United left ruing minimal opportunities and chances, and the patience of the Sheffield United fans and board must be growing ever thinner.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-4 Stoke City
A poor backpass from Matthew Jarvis let Mamady Sidibe round the goalkeeper and square the ball into the path of Rory Delap, whose diving header gave the Potters the lead. Wolves levelled through and unlikely source as defender Rob Edwards scored his first for Wolves, and this was carried through into the second half when striker Andrew Keogh slotted the ball home after a good pass from strike partner Kevin Kyle. At that moment Wolves` afternoon had peaked and Liam Lawrence found himself free on the right hand side of the area and let fly with an excellent drive into the top left hand corner for his 10th of the season. Leon Court who is a goal machine at this moment in time then put the Potters back infront as he latched onto some poor defending to slide the ball in on the far post to send the Stoke fans into delirium. Stoke extended their lead when Ricardo Fuller broke away on the counter attack to run the full length of the field and dispatched his effort low into the bottom left hand corner with aplomb. A result perhaps not fitting of the performance, but the Potter will not mind a jot.
