RECENT HISTORY
London Road has overseen a complete overhaul of fortunes in recent times as a combination of Darragh MacAnthony and Darren Ferguson have lifted the Posh from the bottom tier into Championship prosperity.
Their plight was highlighted by the television programme, Big Ron Manager in which experienced boss Ron Atkinson was drafted in to help the ailing fortunes of Steve Bleasdale`s side both on and off the pitch.
With money at a minimum and Bleasdale prone to spontaneously combusting at any second, it made for compelling viewing, certainly for the Irishman MacAnthony who invested soon afterwards ushering a new era at London Road.
In his first full season of management Darren Ferguson saw his Peterborough side rise to the occasion and big money buys including goalkeeper Joe Lewis saw them to a runner-up spot in League Two and subsequently promotion behind the similarly ambitious Milton Keynes Dons.
Speculation ensued surrounding their most prestigious talents including former non-league striker Aaron McLean, who was in the form of his life as Posh gained promotion. He wouldn`t have to wait much longer before the second successive promotion was complete.
A victory on the final day was enough to ensure that Peterborough saw off the Milton Keynes Dons and secured another runners up spot, this time to Leicester City. Speculation surrounding the future of boss Darren Ferguson was called into question with Queens Park Rangers, West Bromwich Albion and Reading all reportedly vying for his signature – it was to no avail as he remained at London Road.
