RECENT HISTORY

Leicester City had fallen on hard times after dropping out of the Premier League and times were bleak at the Walkers Stadium with parachute payments running dry and the side continuing to underachieve dramatically in the Championship.

Micky Adams was given the boot after a stunning QPR comeback at Loftus Road coupled with David Connolly`s sending off for an elbow on Georges Santos and his replacement Rob Kelly was given the post after impressing during his caretaker tenure.

With the 2006-07 season coming to a disappointing close for a Foxes, Milan Mandaric was announced as the new chairman of the club ushering in a new era of prosperity at the Walkers Stadium. One of his first actions was to replace Kelly with former Norwich City boss Nigel Worthington for the remainder of the campaign.

His choice for the hot-seat was former Brentford and Barnet boss Martin Allen and the ex-midfielder wasted no time in bolstering his squad with numerous new additions including the £1.6m capture of Birmingham City forward DJ Campbell.

With Mandaric and Allen at loggerheads over transfers including Derek Riordan and Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, the manager was sacked despite a convincing win over promotion candidates Watford.

Gary Megson took the job without the blessing of the supporters and was effectively hounded out of the club, taking the Bolton Wanderers job and by November Mandaric had a third managerial appointment to make.

Former QPR boss Ian Holloway turned his back on Plymouth Argyle to pen a deal with Leicester, something which the Home Park crowd is yet to forgive him for. Despite ample time and money to take the Foxes away from the relegation zone he couldn`t save them from final day disaster at the Britannia Stadium with Stoke City gaining promotion and sending Leicester down.

Holloway become another victim of Mandaric`s no nonsense approach to management, with Nigel Pearson, the man who kept Southampton up at Leicester City`s expense, appointed to the helm. It proved to be a good decision as the Foxes were clear champions of League One, seven points clear of second place Peterborough United and nine clear of third place Milton Keynes Dons.

In Matthew Fryatt they had an in-form goalscorer, the former Walsall man bagging 27 goals in a fruitful season as the Foxes bounced back to the second tier in style.
