Can DJ Make The Difference?

DJ Campbell has vowed to come back to Loftus Road a stronger player after his loan spell at Ipswich Town.

The self-professed QPR fan is on loan at Portman Road for three months – making an immediate impact by scoring against Cardiff City on his debut.

The journey to the top for the 30-year-old has hardly been typical, citing DHL and Yakult among his employers during a difficult non-league spell.

Having burst onto the scene with Yeading then Brentford, Campbell’s career has suffered more peaks and troughs than a run-away roller-coaster.

From youth team football at Aston Villa and QPR to non-league, back on the scene with the aforementioned Brentford before suffering a lapse at Birmingham and Leicester City respectively.

His career resurrected once more by Ian Holloway at Blackpool where he netted some important top flight goals – sparking a deal to take him full circle back to W12.

Sadly, change in management, injuries etc have all conspired against his progress, but now he’s back with a bang and netting a debut goal at Portman Road.

DJ’s appetite for goal makes him a very useful commodity, particularly at Championship level – which Holloway understands and Jewell will undoubtedly reap benefit from.

Campbell’s pre-season form was good for QPR, but was never really entertained by Mark Hughes as a potential 25-man squad member, which is a tad disappointing considering his lack of opportunity to date.

So the big question then, can DJ come back and contribute to the cause in January? – With Andrew Johnson injured and wide-spread spending due to be tempered, this is a very real possibility.

13 goals in 31 games for Blackpool nearly had them safe in the top flight and would certainly be most welcomed in a bid to forge a mid-table finish.

If it was a question of class then DJ has shown he can do it over the course of a season – will Mark Hughes relent on his initial thoughts and allow a place for Campbell?

A few more goals with the Tractor Boys wouldn’t harm the cause in the slightest…
