Camp returns to Derby

Rangers looked set to lose the England Under 21 stopper last week when his parent club Derby lost first choice keeper Stephen Bywater to suspension.

A successful appeal from the Rams meant Camp could stay with QPR and secure the club’s safety against Cardiff on Saturday.

Today Bywater was found guilty on a second charge relating to his actions after the sending off at Ipswich last week and banned for one match. That leaves Derby with just Lee Grant to keep goal in their crucial promotion tussle against Crystal Palace in London this coming Sunday.

Camp is only likely to be on the bench for that match but in Derby’s position you can’t be too careful. Thank goodness Rangers are already safe.

John Gregory may decide to give youngster Jake Cole a chance in the first team for the remaining two games with nothing at stake for QPR. Simon Royce is on loan at Gillingham and Paul Jones hasn’t played yet this year. Jones told the Kilburn Times this week he was looking for another club to play for next season, but would be open to a coaching offer from QPR who are currently looking for a goalkeeping coach following Tony Roberts’ departure.

Camp’s QPR future could hinge on whether Derby win promotion to the Premier League. He’s unlikely to figure in Billy Davies’ plans regardless of the outcome but if Derby are promoted the wage increase that goes with that could make it worth his while to sit on the final 12 months of his contract rather than come looking for first team football at Loftus Road.

Whatever he decides to do we wish him luck, and thank him for bailing us out again! If he does decide to move to W12 permanently he’d be a hero before kicking a ball.
