Rangers defender Gary Borrowdale is set to join Division One strugglers Brighton and Hove Albion on loan until the end of the season.

Gary Borrowdale (24) started his career at Crystal Palace and racked up 98 games for the Selhurst Park club, winning the clubs “Young Player of The Year”along the way.

A bright future beckoned at Palace, but with his contract due to expire he chose to disregard the revised contract offered to him, choosing to join former boss Iain Dowie at Coventry City instead. An FA Tribunal later fixed the fee at £750,000.

The move backfired on him as under Dowie Coventry City were struggling and the club parted company with the manager, who as we all know came to join us at the beginning of this season. Borrowdale only managed 21 appearances for the Sky Blues before being loaned out to Colchester United. This emergency one month loan saw him make 4 appearances.

On the 23rd November this year he joined Rangers on loan and signed a permanent deal in January of this year.

Just why our club signed a player and then shipped him out on loan after only a few months and without making a first team appearance is a mystery. What is YOUR view on this? Let us know.
