Former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd has emerged as the front runner for the vacant post at Loftus Road, according to a daily newspaper.

The Mirror believes that Boothroyd heads a five man hit-list with the selection due to take place at some point this week.

Boothroyd got the Hornets promoted to the Premier League with a playoff final victory over Leeds United back in 2006, but they were relegated as the division`s bottom side.

He left Vicarage Road by mutual consent in November 2008 with Malky Mackay taking temporary charge of the Hornets.

A rich coaching pedigree, Boothroyd has CV that includes Peterborough United, Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United.

The Daily Mail however remain insistent that Jim Magilton is set to be given the poison chalice releasing a string of articles concerning what they think is a foregone conclusion.

Just who Mr Briatore and the board will appoint remains a mystery but it may be worth keeping an eye on the Monaco Grand Prix tomorrow to see if Flavio has any guests of honour.
