Marc Bircham has returned to Loftus Road in a back-room shake-up that sees Keith Ryan appointed Reserve Team Manager.

Queens Park Rangers fan Bircham retired from the game in January of this year owing to persistent injuries, and is on the verge of completing his Uefa A Coaching Licence.

The 31-year-old`s return to W12 is a positive step for manager Jim Magilton: ‘Bringing Birch back to the Club is a very positive step,” he told QPR.co.uk

‘QPR runs through his blood. He grew up supporting Rangers; he’s skippered the Club; and he knows what it means to play for the R’s.’

This reshuffle has promoted Keith Ryan to Reserve Team Manager. The former youth team boss impressed John Gorman during their time at Wycombe Wanderers and Magilton was also keen to praise Ryan`s enthusiasm.

‘Keith is a top coach and his enthusiasm and ambition is excellent,” Magilton said.

‘Having him involved with the First Team set-up is great.

‘He’s an infectious character and has a great rapport with the players, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for with all my staff.’

Bircham will assist Steve Gallen in the role of Youth Development Assistant Manager, but the question remains, is this tokenism for a Rangers hero or a masterstroke in helping the youth to succeed?
