Biggy Looking Forward

Marcus Bignot, formerly of Queens Park Rangers, now of Millwall is looking forward to the new League One season.

Currently plying his trade at the New Den following his release by John Gregory from Queens Park Rangers, Marcus Bignot is relishing the prospect of another new season.

In line for the vacant vice-captaincy position at Millwall, Marcus has made himself at home at the New Den under the guidance of former Rangers assistant manager Kenny Jackett.

With competition limited with Danny Senda ruled out until Christmas with injury, Biggy certainly isn`t counting his chickens:

“While I believe in my ability to play in the first team, I would never be narrow-minded enough to think I will walk into a position or not be in direct competition with any individual.” Marcus told the Southwark News.

“No-one is guaranteed a place in the team – you fight to wear the shirt and pre-season brings a fresh start for everyone – including me.”

A response which encapsulates his time at Rangers, a never say die attitude from which the fans were never left wanting for effort from the R`s former number 2. As he moves into pre-season the preparation is tough with fitness the main order of the day, but when asked as to whether form means anything in pre-season, he couldn`t resist reminiscing about Rangers:

“For me, you can’t read into pre-season. I have had winless pre-seasons and then got off to a blinder and the same the other way around.”

“Pre-season is about getting the conditioning right of the body and the mind, being mentally ready. If there was a formula for pre-season then everybody would be doing it, but there isn’t and it is about getting right for the set of players you have.”

“I remember with QPR a while back when we had a tour of Ibiza and lots of people pointed fingers about whether that was the right thing to do – but then we won six games on the bounce and it was forgotten.”

Bignot however is looking towards another promotion from the third tier of English football after helping the R`s to a second placed finish back in 2004. For a player who knows what it takes to get promoted, Marcus was coy in his response as to his expectations for the season ahead:

“Every club, player, manager, supporter will set the same expectation in this league – promotion. There is a process of getting there and it’s a matter of taking that process one step at a time.”

“Good pre-season. First game and first win. Develop a good start. And you really cannot look beyond that and the rest will take care of itself.”

Marcus made 182 league appearances for the R`s in two spells at Loftus Road, scoring two goals, both in his first spell in W12. Since his move away from Rangers Bignot was snapped up by Kenny Jackett after an initial loan spell he has made 22 appearances for Millwall.
