Queens Park Rangers today confirmed that they have launched a bid for Blackpool central defender Kaspars Gorkss.

The Latvian international who scored a Loftus Road last season, has aroused the interest of a number of Championship clubs including Watford, Norwich City, Ipswich and Burnley.

A league champion with Ventspils in his native Latvia, the defender born in Riga has billed himself as a goalscoring centre half in his first few seasons at Bloomfield Road, scoring 5 goals this campaign.

The brief statement on QPR.co.uk read:

“Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm that a bid has been made for Blackpool defender Kaspars Gorkss.

The 26-year-old Latvian international has been with the Seasiders since January 2007.”

The Blackpool defender also has experience of European football with the aforementioned Ventspils, playing against Newcastle United.

Rangers is believed to have activated a fee release clause of £250,000, which leaves the Tangerines hands firmly tied.
