Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini will miss out tomorrow evening against QPR – but there is some positive news for the Toon Army.

The defender who remains in the international frame despite his side’s relegation to the Championship will miss out tomorrow owing to a groin injury.

Signing for Newcastle United in 2008 for a fee rising to £10.3m, it would be fair to say that Coloccini hasn’t pulled up too many trees for his price-tag – but this season he has shown his vast capabilities and will undoubtedly be missed in the Magpies’ backline.

Meanwhile compatriot Jonás Gutiérrez has come back into the fold following a hamstring complaint and fellow midfielder Danny Guthrie returns from suspension.

Geremi missed the thrashing of Ipswich Town through illness but he could also return with defensive duo Ryan Taylor and Danny Simpson doubtful with calf and ankle injuries respectively.

Striker Shola Ameobi and midfielder Joey Barton will both sit out the clash with their respective long term injuries.
