Paulo Sousa has been sacked as manager of Queens Park Rangers – confirming weeks of speculation that his position was under threat.

The Sousa saga came to an end today (Thursday) after the club announced the decision to part ways with the Portuguese boss.

An official statement read: ‘Queens Park Rangers Football Club has today (Thursday) had to terminate Paulo De Sousa’s employment with the Club with immediate effect.

“It came to the Club’s attention that Mr De Sousa had, without authority, divulged highly confidential and sensitive information. The Club, with legal advice, responded in this way to protect its position.

“Player / Coach Gareth Ainsworth will take Caretaker charge on a temporary basis, from now until the end of the season.’

Sousa was given just 23 league games in charge of the R`s – steering them to seven wins, 11 draws and five defeats, giving him a 30.43% win percentage.

Rangers now search for their third manager this campaign and fifth overall during the brief reign of Flavio Briatore.

Top of the Rangers hit list are reportedly Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson, Bristol City boss Gary Johnson and out-of-work manager Paul Ince.

Vital QPR would like to place on record their thanks to Paulo Sousa
