Gareth Ainsworth is a most respected and admired player at QPR as well as being greatly admired as a person. Therefore, it was with great interest that I read his article on the QPR Official Site, calling for all fans to remember how far the club has come in the short space of 12 months.

Ainsworth has asked fans to remember that we are building a team for the future “We are slowly building something special here,” he told the website. He added, however, “Unfortunately there`s a minority who`ve got carried away by the expectations surrounding the Club.”

I have been reading many articles on different sites over the past few days, particularly since the Birmingham defeat, which have ranged from down right doom and gloom to cautious optimism. And while I would never, ever deny anyone their right, as a paying customer, to wanting to have their say over what they are paying for; I do have to agree with Ainsworth.

“Last month we slipped to fifth in the table and a small minority booed us off!” he bemoaned and he is not the only one. After the home game against Derby, Martin Rowlands was seen to berate a section of fans for having booed the team.

Many fans don`t think that the team should receive only praise – but is booing the team really the right way to behave? After all, we are supporters and the dictionary defines that as being “an adherent, a backer, one who promotes”. Surely we should be encouraging the team, particularly when they are performing poorly!

At those moments we should be singing, cheering, encouraging in every positive way. It`s the carrot not the stick method – and believe me, it works, and I know from personal experience that it does!!

And then, after the game is over, perhaps quietly on message boards or by emailing the club, the team/manager can find out how the fans really feel about inept performances and poor displays.

But I think we should all get behind this great club of ours and lift the roof off with our support (figuratively speaking, of course!) In the words of Gareth Ainsworth “Intimidate the opposition, support the R`s and we`ll do our best to make you proud.”

It`s a partnership between the players and the supporters and I, for one, wish to be a positive part of that partnership! Come on you R`s!!
