Gareth Ainsworth has been quick to praise R’s boss Jim Magilton in the build up to this weekend’s clash against his former club Preston North End.

Rangers get back to action after the international break at QPR host Preston North End in a game that could prove crucial in the race for a playoff place.

Ainsworth himself will not take part in the fixture, still on the road to recovery from tendonitis but after completing some much needed game time in the reserves he spoke to QPR.co.uk.

The R’s winger outlined why he thinks QPR are a very different animal under Jim Magilton and John Gorman, praising the duo for their work thus far.

‘He’s (Magilton) a good man, he’s a fair man and he picks his squad on merit,’ he said.

‘If you’re good enough you can be in his squad, and hopefully we can all be good enough, pushing for QPR and winning.

‘I’ve got a big respect for John and Jim I think they’re doing a great job up there. We’ve amassed a really good talented squad and I don’t think we’re going to be too far away this season.’

The winger has had three separate spells at Deepdale during his career prior to joining Queens Park Rangers and is regarded by many as a club icon.

Another former Lilywhite in Patrick Agyemang will have a better opportunity to get some game-time this weekend, and is expected to feature on the bench at Loftus Road.

Both players played in the slender reserves victory over Brentford at the Recreation Ground. It was Agyemang’s goal that separated the sides after a trademark knock-down from Ainsworth.
