Queens Park Rangers’ caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth revealed that Damion Stewart’s mistake has left the Jamaican disappointed.

Wolverhampton Wanderers achieved promotion today at Molineux courtesy of a goal from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. The goal itself was as a direct result of a mistake by Damion Stewart and Rangers’ interim boss came out in defence of his centre-half.

Ainsworth told QPR.co.uk: ‘It’s unfortunate that it’s been an uncharacteristic mistake from Damion that’s let them in, and he’s devastated.

‘He’s been fantastic all season, and the only time he’s made a real error, it’s cost us the win.’

Ainsworth was quick to praise Mick McCarthy`s Wolverhampton Wanderers upon their ascent to the Premier League, but also indicated that Rangers had chances to halt the golden dream.

He continued: ‘I don’t want to take anything away from Wolves today, this is their day, and they’ve deserved it after what they’ve done this season.

‘But today was one of their tougher games because I think our lads did very well, especially in the second half. We could’ve put a dampener on the afternoon with an equaliser.

“But we’ll be going again next season and what we’ve seen today is what we want as well.’

Rangers will now face Plymouth Argyle in the final home test of the season and they will look to take the maximum points in the penultimate fixture of the 2008/09 season.
