“A bad time for us”: Jordan Hugill makes QPR admission as he assesses promotion chances

|

Queens Park Rangers striker Jordan Hugill has admitted that the enforced break in the game came at the wrong time for the R’s.

Mark Warburton’s side are on a six-game unbeaten run, which included a 3-1 win at Preston on March 7, which was the last time the team played. That victory just about kept their play-off hopes alive, with the Londoners six points behind North End who occupy sixth position with just nine games to play.

Therefore, they were hoping to build some momentum and had been looking forward to a game against Barnsley, who are in the relegation zone. And, whilst Hugill stressed it was the right decision, he told TalkSPORT that the enforced break was frustrating for him and his teammates given the form they had shown.

It kind of came at a bad time for us. We had won four on the spin. We had gone away to Preston and won and had kind of been preparing ourselves for a big game against Barnsley at our place.

It got cut short and I think it was the right decision to do that but as a footballer you just want to play football. It’s tough.”

Will QPR finish in the top six this season?

Yes

No

Hugill, who has openly admitted to struggling with his mental health during this lockdown, had been in good form during the R’s recent run, scoring two goals in the past six games to take his tally to 11 for the season after joining on loan from West Ham.

There’s still no definitive date for when the season can resume and a lot will depend on the government advice, however EFL chief Rick Parry had previously stated that training could start in mid-May and the campaign could be completed in 56 days from June.
